After 42 years practicing dentistry, Dr. Sullivan felt the need to spend more time with this family. In 2018, after a long and caring career, he retired. He is missed greatly, but we are blessed to see him weekly when he visits to check his mail, check on his friends and spread his joy!
Dr. Sullivan grew up in San Marcos. After graduating from San Marcos High School, he attended Southwest Texas State University. He went on to study dentistry at the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1976
After graduation, Dr. Sullivan served in the United States Air Force for four years. During this time he advanced his education and clinical skills in periodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery, anesthesia, restorative dentistry, and endodontics by completing a residency program at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. After completing his military commitment at Malmstrom AFB, Montana, he returned to his hometown in 1980, to again make it his home and establish his San Marcos dental practice.
Dr. Sullivan is continually furthering his education as an active member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the River District Dental Society. His community is also very important to him and he has been involved in many aspects of it. He has been a member of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce since 1980 and has served on its Board of Directors. He is a charter member of the Rotary Club of Greater San Marcos, has served on the board of directors for the Heritage Association of San Marcos, and has spent many years coaching youth athletics including soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball. He and his wife, Carol, are active members of First Baptist Church of San Marcos. He is currently serving as the chairman of the Board of Trustees for San Marcos Academy and is active on the board of Giving Hope of San Marcos.
When Dr. Sullivan is not practicing dentistry, he enjoys family time with his wife, their daughter Lindsey, son-in-law Josh, son Seth, daughter-in-law Melissa, and most especially their grandchildren, Emily, Grant, Luke, Sam, Vivian, and Shane. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, western art, barbeque, west Texas, and good country music.
