Dr. Corey Carothers, D.D.S.
Dr. Corey Carothers grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas. After high school, he attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 2002 with a degree in Biomedical Science. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2006 from University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he received the Clinical Excellence Award.
Following graduation from dental school, Dr. Carothers was accepted to a post-doctoral residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. His advanced training had a strong clinical focus in aesthetics, dental materials, treatment planning, and clinical applications dealing with the medically compromised patient. Additionally, he holds a certification in Enteral Sedation.
Dr. Carothers moved to San Marcos with his wife, Dr. Catherine Carothers, in 2007. He felt that San Marcos would be the perfect community for raising a family and practicing dentistry. Dr. Carothers feels blessed to raise his three kids in San Marcos and to be a part of this community.
Dr. Carothers is an active member of the Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, and the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce. He is currently an officer for the River District Dental Society. He had the privilege of serving for three years on the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission. He has been a member of the Wednesday Rotary organization since 2012 and has served on their board for the past two years.
In Dr. Carothers’ free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Catherine, and their three children, Cate, Christopher, and Charlie. The Carothers Family enjoys doing anything that involves being outdoors.
Dr. Catherine Carothers, D.D.S.
Dr. Catherine Carothers grew up in Liberty, Texas. After high school, she attended The University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 2002 with a degree in Biology. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2006 from University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Dr. Carothers met her husband and fellow dentist, Dr. Corey Carothers, in dental school. Shortly after their wedding they moved to San Marcos to begin their careers and start a family together. Dr. Carothers had the opportunity to practice in several diverse clinical settings prior to joining Carothers Family Dental. She has extensive experience in treating children, which has been a great asset to this practice. In addition to practicing dentistry, Dr. Carothers also handles all practice administration responsibilities for Carothers Family Dental.
Dr. Carothers is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, and the River District Dental Society. She is involved in the San Marcos community and is a board member for YoungLife. Kids, community and Christ are Dr. Carothers’ main priorities and fuel her desire to help where able.
In her free time, Dr. Carothers enjoys spending time with her husband, Corey, their daughter Cate, and their sons Christopher and Charlie. Being a mother is her favorite job. She can be found volunteering at her children’s school, helping with after school activities, and doing anything and everything her family needs. She also enjoys traveling, reading a good book, and being outdoors.
Dr. Joseph C. Sullivan, D.D.S.
After 42 years practicing dentistry, Dr. Sullivan felt the need to spend more time with this family. In July 2018, after a long and caring career, he retired. He is missed greatly but we are blessed to see him weekly when he comes in to check his mail, check on his friends and spread his joy and love of life!
Dr. Sullivan grew up in San Marcos. After graduating from San Marcos High School, he attended Southwest Texas State University. He went on to study dentistry at the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1976.
After graduation, Dr. Sullivan served in the United States Air Force for four years. During this time he advanced his education and clinical skills in periodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery, anesthesia, restorative dentistry, and endodontics by completing a residency program at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. After completing his military commitment at Malmstrom AFB, Montana, he returned to his hometown in 1980, to again make it his home and establish his San Marcos family dental practice.
Dr. Sullivan is continually furthering his education as an active member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the River District Dental Society. His community is also very important to him and he has been involved in many aspects of it. He has been a member of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce since 1980 and has served on its Board of Directors. He is a charter member of the Rotary Club of Greater San Marcos, has served on the board of directors for the Heritage Association of San Marcos, and has spent many years coaching youth athletics including soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball. He and his wife, Carol, are active members of First Baptist Church of San Marcos. He is currently serving as the chairman of the Board of Trustees for San Marcos Academy and is active on the board of Giving Hope of San Marcos.
When Dr. Sullivan is not practicing dentistry in San Marcos, he enjoys family time with his wife, their daughter Lindsey, son-in-law Josh, son Seth, daughter-in-law Melissa, and most especially their grandchildren, Emily, Grant, Luke, Sam, Vivian, and Shane. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, western art, barbecue, West Texas, and good country music.
